Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.
– Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Welcome in the holidays!
If there was ever a time that pushes our buttons….both joyous and stressful, this is that time of year!
If there are gathering events at your home or outside the home, it may require you to wear your mask of smiles and joviality. You may not be feeling this at all.
Do your best to set aside some quiet time to be good to yourself. Just sit or lean and close your eyes. Take a deep breath and as you let it out, say to yourself, I am letting all the (strife, stress, pain, weariness and perhaps overload) go. Simply go….for the moment.
It does not have to be a big start, but if you start taking some quiet moments, you will notice the change immediately. Be present when you breathe out. See, feel or imagine your shoulders dropping just a smidge. Two – three minutes and open your eyes (if you closed them) and take a breath while still walking the beach or pretend you are strolling in flowing wheat fields in your mind. I love to look up at the night sky and realize I too am part of this extraordinary beauty. For me, it gives me to a safe and solid grounding. That makes me feel better.
In time, if you continue with this or any relaxing practice, you will succeed wildly!
In the days of the coming holidays, there may also be mixtures of joy and some fleeting feelings of quiet sadness for many circumstances in your life. These feelings and thoughts can grow into life’s already feeling of fullness and over-load. This too is a wise reason to take some healthy, quiet time when you can breathe and even cry. So, pick the right place, time and if someone is with you, use some discernment to know you can be vulnerable with this person.
How ever you celebrate, do your best to especially, allow the richness, tradition or just the magic of the seasons to bring you what you want!
